Can you believe it’s that time of the year again? The Indiana State Fair is only days away and IMMB staff is working hard to put the finishing touches on this year’s Lactation Station project. Created in 2006 to meet a crucial need for breastfeeding women, the Lactation Station provides a clean, comfortable place for nursing moms, while also offering refuge from the hot August sun, changing stations, cold water, and a wealth of information about women and infant health issues.
Since its inception, the Lactation Station has expanded to THREE stations throughout the fairgrounds. Over 20,000 moms and families visit one of the stations during the fair’s 17-day run; nearly 1,000,000 walk past the IMMB shuttle, which runs 12 hours per day during the fair and is used to promote breastfeeding and infant health. Those are some serious statistics!
The Lactation Station would not be possible without the partners and sponsors IMMB has developed over the years. This year, IMMB would like to extend a special thanks to Indiana WIC, which is proudly serving as the presenting sponsor for the 2011 Lactation Station. In addition, IMMB would like to thank the organizations below for their support of breastfeeding moms and families:
Day Nursery Association of Indianapolis
Indiana College Choice 529 Direct Savings Plan
March of Dimes, Indiana Chapter
The New Wishard: Eskenazi Health
Please take a minute to visit each of our sponsors’ websites. Without their support, IMMB would not be able to provide the Lactation Station services to our community’s moms and babies. We cannot thank our sponsors enough for their commitment to supporting breastfeeding and infant health. They truly are helping us share the gift of mothers’ milk!
